NEUROMUSCULAR MASSAGE THERAPY (NMT) This soft tissue treatment is very specific and thoroughly releases the entire muscle from end to end, unlike Swedish or deep tissue massage that mainly touches the central bulk of muscles. Tender points and trigger points in muscles, tendons and ligaments are treated with NMT. Postural and muscular imbalances are also assessed and addressed. Pressure varies to stay within each client's comfort zone with a "hurts so good" feeling being appropriate.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MFR) Fascia is connective tissue that forms a web throughout the body, enveloping musculature, connecting skin and muscles, and supporting internal organs. It has the ability of being stuck and dense due to poor posture, inactivity or injury; however, with proper hydration and exercise, it may be more liquid and flowing. This technique helps warm and release adhesed areas so structures glide more easily over each other, thus improving mobility.
MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUES (MET) During treatment, the patient participates by gently contracting and relaxing a muscle as directed by the therapist, to activate structures within the muscle fibers. This technique helps reduce contractures and restore normal resting length of the musculature.
MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE (MLD) Inflammatory edema is localized stagnant fluid lingering in tissues and the spaces between tissues. This light, soothing, rhythmic work stimulates flow from the tissue space back into circulation via the lymph system. It will decrease swelling after any trauma, including strains, sprains, burns, motor vehicle accident or trip-and-fall injuries, or surgery, such as oral or orthopedic surgery. This technique is particularly relaxing and calming to the nervous system. |
